Japanese For the Curious 101

Japanese For the Curious 101

An easy-enough approach to learning to write, read, and speak rudimentary Japanese.

Welcome to Japanese For the Curious 101, which henceforth shall be shortened to just Japanese 101. The history of this online tutorial's making is that one day, during a thunderstorm, I was in a very productive kind of mood, and so I started on this. Here you will be provided with easy-enough (with exception to dolts and other people who need "special help") hints, tips, and general lectures which will guide you on your way to the merry world of, "Hey! I can say stuff in Japanese and be intelligible!". I strongly advise you to read the sections below in order. If you want to jump around, just make sure that you've read everything else before you begin on Unit 1. If you are a novice and just jump into the main section without reading the background material, you are likely to have missed information crucial for fully understanding the Japanese language. These sections were made to give you background knowledge that you will need in the units. Also, make sure to read the Language Rules of Conduct for a quick overview of other miscellaeneous properties of Japanese that you will need to know. By the way, vocabulary words are sometimes introduced in discussions outside of the units. Don't worry, though! These words will be included in unit vocabulary lists; they are just there as examples to clarify the discussions.

Before we get started, I would like to emphasize one point: Please sign my guestbook!!! My guestbook is not just a shout-outs page, but a place where you can tell me your personal opinion on how good a job I did writing up this site. Even if it's just a "Your website sucks", it's still very important to me that I get feedback of some sort. It would also be very helpful if you offered any suggestions or constructive comments for improving the overall quality of this site. Your feedback is EXTREMELY CRUCIAL and EXTREMELY APPRECIATED!!!! Thank you for your help! Now, read on, and enjoy!! By the way, if you have any questions or suggestions, please e-mail me at ALTChang12@hotmail.com.

Note: I've added new material to the Math (and Numbers) section of Unit 2. Thank you for your interest!! I apologize in advance for any erratic, confusing, and/or incomplete sections right now, but all sections will eventually be completed. For now, please check out my little list of useful Japanese phrases to learn a little basic Japanese. More units will appear on the site as I create them. I might not always have so much free time, so please be patient with the web site's progress. Last updated 05/13/2004.
